The Psalms were the life blood and bed rock for the Hebrew people. They interiorized and immersed themselves in them each day. Jesus did the same. He called upon the Psalms memorized in His heart when words would not come. On the Cross… “Father Why Have You Forsaken Me?” and “Into Your Hands I Commend My Spirit”. The Psalms capture and communicate the highs and lows of life for us from times of Lament to times Of Praise.

We might call Psalm 118 a Club Sandwich, a healthy one. Psalm 118 is sandwiched between Psalm 117 the Shortest Psalm and Psalm 119 the Longest Psalm. And it is piled high with healthy ingredients for us. The nutritional ingredient it offers us is GRATITUDE! Psalm 118 rejoices, “Give Thanks to the Lord for He is Good! His Steadfast Love Endures For-Ever! The psalmist rejoices because this extraordinary moment has come as a gift against all odds! It’s the story of Abraham and Sara giving birth to Isaac “when they were as good as dead!”. It’s Eddie Rickenbacker’s “Sea Gull in the middle of the South Pacific!”. God acts with “Todah” moments for us too! Give Thanks to the Lord for He is Good!
