Lutheran World Relief Projects at Trinity
Lutheran World Relief is a national organization that works with international relief groups and local partners in impoverished countries to help those most in need. We support them in giving comfort and hope to people displaced by conflict or natural disasters and to those living in extreme illness or poverty. Our church is actively involved in donating quilts and soap, along with school, personal care kits, coordinated by the Trinity Lutheran Women. The quilts are assembled each month during the “Tacking Tuesdays.” The school and personal care supplies are collected during the year and assembled into kits in time to be shipped with the quilts the week after Easter.
Our congregation has been dependably generous in providing needed items. Here are the supplies that we continue to collect:
Each quilt is constructed of donated fabric and filled with batting or blankets. We appreciate fabric, flat sheets, blankets and batting. We have fun tying these quilts during on the third and fourth (and fifth, if there is one) Tuesdays of each month. We gather in Luther Hall and come and go between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. It’s easy, and we would love to have you join us! We also need help assembling the tops and bottoms, and that can be done at any time and at home, if you prefer.
For Each Personal Care Kit: One bath towel; Three bath-size bars of soap; One adult-size toothbrush; One sturdy, wide-toothed comb; One metal nail clipper.
Bath soap is a treasured item, and we can send boxes with any size or brand of soap in its original wrapping.
For Each School Kit: Four 70-sheet 8” x 10.5” spiral notebooks; One 12” ruler; One pair blunt scissors; Five black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink); One box of 16 or 24 crayons; Five unsharpened #2 pencils; One pencil sharpener; One 2.5” eraser.
Our volunteers use sturdy donated fabric (such as denim or corduroy) to sew the drawstring bags to hold he supplies. sewing help is also needed! After bags are sewn, we need help inserting the drawstrings in each bag.
Please also consider making a monetary donation so that we can purchase supplies needed to complete the school and personal care kits. We also send cash donations with our kits to help with shipping costs. Donations can be sent to the church office or given with the weekly offering.
Thank you for your ongoing ministry to our neighbors in need.
